A Numerical Taxonomic Study of Some Pseudomonas-like Marine Bacteria
نویسندگان
چکیده
The abilities of 26 marine and 12 other Pseudomonas-like strains of bacteria to grow on single carbon sources, their antibiotic sensitivities and complement of some enzymes of intermediary metabolism were numerically analysed and gave five phenons. Two phenons contained strains with more than 55 mol % GC and were regarded as Pseudomonas spp., two were similar to the genus AZteromonas, and one was an intermediate phenon. Tests for identifying such organisms are proposed. Pseudomonas putrefaciens Derby & Hammer 1931 and P. rubescens Pivnick 1955 should be considered synonyms of Alteromonas putrefaciens Derby & Hammer comb. nov.

Characterization of hydrocarbonoclastic marine acteria using the 16S rRNA gene: A microcosm case study
Some marine microorganisms can degrade oil pollutants by using them as their sole carbon and energy sources. Members of this heterogenic group are called hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria. However, an unestimated number of hydrocarbonoclastic marine bacteria have not yet been characterized. In this context, a microcosm study was carried out, simulating a marine environment contaminated with oil in U...
متن کاملScreening and identification of biosurfactant producing marine bacteria from the Caspian Sea
Marine microorganisms have unique physiological properties and novel metabolites such as biosurfactant to live in extreme habitats (e.g. oil polluted environment). The aim of this study was to characterize some biosurfactant-producing bacteria collected from sediment and seawater samples from the Caspian Sea. These bacteria were isolated using enrichment method in ONR7a medium with crude oil as...
متن کاملRecent developments in Pseudomonas biocontrol mechanisms
Fluorescent pseudomonads are an effective source of biological control that have high adaptive power and able to produce a wonderful source of secondary metabolites. Antibiotics such as phenazines, diacetylphloroglucinol, and hydrogen cyanide are produced by certain taxonomic groups of the genus Pseudomonas and appear to be ancestral. These compounds often play a physiological role in the produ...
متن کاملDetection of Plasmids in Heavy Metal Resistance Bacteria Isolated from the Persian Gulf and Enclosed Industrial Areas
Several heavy metal resistant bacterial strains were isolated from sediment and water samples collected from the Persian Gulf and enclosed industrial areas. All the isolated bacteria were identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Isolated bacteria were tested for the presence of plasmids using the modified alkaline lysate method. The method was effective for identification and characterization of...

Taxonomic study of the genus Padina (Dictyotales, Phaeophyceae) from the Persian Gulf coast was conducted based on morphology and molecular phylogenetic analyses using chloroplast encoded large subunit RuBisCo (rbcL) gene sequences. Detailed descriptions of each species found in this study are described. Several morphological characters, such as number of cell layers composing the thallus, pr...
